A number of Australian and South Australian Government agencies are represented in our region, in places such as Mount Gambier, Naracoorte and Bordertown and local staff are able to assist with enquiries. Such departments include Safework SA, the Office of Consumer and Business Affairs, Transport SA, Housing SA, Families SA, South Australian Tourism Commission, SA Water, Department of Education and Children’s Services, Health SA and Primary Industries Resource of South Australia.
Regional Development Australia Limestone Coast (formerly the Limestone Coast Regional Development Board - LCRDB) acts as a local service provider for a number of government funded initiatives in fields such as export, food & wine and workforce development. A number of other government programs and initiatives are co-located with the RDALC and share resources. For more information about RDALC go to www.rdalimestonecoast.org.au.
Currently, RDALC offers the following support to individuals and businesses:
Small Business Advisory Service - No cost advisory and client information service for those about to enter small business or for those already in an existing business.
In partnership with the South Australian Government we provide hands on support to local businesses seeking to enter or build new export markets through regional delivery of the Australian Government's TradeStart program. Go to www.austrade.gov.au.
Migration and Workforce Development – assistance to local employers seeking to use skilled migration as a way of filling vacancies with experienced staff. Assistance with workforce development issues.
South Australia Works – in the Limestone Coast the Board’s activities focus on
- Workforce Development - building an appropriately skilled workforce for the Limestone Coast
- Innovation - supporting entrepreneurship, enterprise and self employment
- Career Development - enabling individuals to develop their careers, primarily through the work of the Career Development Centre and
- Learning Culture - growing community capacity through ongoing learning.
AusIndustry is an Australian Government initiative, co-located at the RDALC and delivered regionally to support local businesses to access innovation grants; tax and duty concessions; general industry support and venture capital.
In addition, the South Australian Government through the Department of Trade and Economic Development (DTED) offer support through programs and services for businesses in our state. Business units in DTED work closely with regionally based organizations such as RDALC and local Councils. For more information about DTED and what they can offer, go to the DTED website.
Local Government is responsible for economic, social and environmental support of communities through the provision of services and welcome contact from all sectors of their communities. In the Limestone Coast region, the South East Local Government Association (SELGA) has seven member councils:
